What is this course about?

This is a course about using Twitter in your professional capacity, which can include promoting your business, your brand, or just your professional presence on Twitter. This is not a course about how to sell or advertise on Twitter. Instead, using proven linguistic methods, you’ll learn to enhance your Twitter identity.

Who should take this course?

Professionals, executives, management, and anyone else who needs or wants to have a presence on Twitter and wants to promote a professional identity.

What does the course cover?

We explore the basics, such as how to set up your Twitter profile and what you should and should not say in your profile. We will then discuss effective and ineffective practices that businesses and professionals employ in their Twitter streams. We’ll also explore how to find and attract your desired followers. Dr Clark will also be available after the course for any questions, advice, and follow-up discussion.

What are the goals of the course?

By the end of the course, you will feel more confident interacting on Twitter, as well as have an understanding of linguistic tips and tricks to best project your professional identity.

 How long does the course run?

Between 1-4 hours, depending on number of attendees and level of familiarity with Twitter.

How many can attend a course?

Due to the bespoke nature of the course, a maximum of six attendees is recommended. This is to best allow for questions and discussion throughout the course.

Why should I attend?

A primary way of communicating, in both business and personal life, is through written language. Each situation where communication happens has unique norms of interaction and interpretation. Many professionals can be unfamiliar with these norms as they relate to Twitter and its practices. Dr Clark specialises in how language is used to create and project a professional identity, and has been an active Twitter user for several years. As both an academic and practicing sociolinguist, she understands just how critical appropriate language use is to career development, increasing client base, networking, and other concerns of the modern professional. This course teaches how to use Twitter to a professional’s best advantage.
